When it comes to your eye health, you may not always pay as much attention as you should. After all, as long as you can see, your eyes are healthy, right? Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Your eyes actually need maintenance and care to stay healthy and functioning. One common eye disorder that people often suffer from is conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye. This particular disorder can develop due to allergies, bacteria or a viral infection. While you can and should go to an eye doctor to treat this ailment, there are also home remedy options you can use to help you recover from your conjunctivitis. All you need to do is know your options and give them a try.

Raw Honey Eye Drops

When it comes to natural remedies, honey has become one of the most popular sources of healing and relief. Honey has natural antibacterial and antiviral properties that can help you get rid of infection throughout your body.

As far as your eyes go, you can actually turn your honey into a natural eye drop. All you need is to buy organic raw honey (make sure it is raw and not the standard clover honey). Then you need some warm water and a pinch of salt.

You can mix about 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of raw honey into 1/4 cup of warm water. Add the pinch of salt and then stir until the solution is fully dissolved. Use 1 or 2 drops twice a day to treat your conjunctivitis and you should see your pink eye beginning to fade and clear sooner rather than later.

Garlic

Garlic is one of the best natural antibacterial products available. While placing garlic directly onto or into your eyes would not be a good idea (it would be painful and potentially damaging), you can help to clear up your conjunctivitis faster by consuming more garlic.

If you enjoy the flavor, begin adding a clove or two of garlic to your favorite recipes. Try to consume at least a clove a day if possible.

On the other hand, if garlic is not one of your favorite seasonings (or you do not want to have garlic breath all day), you can purchase a garlic supplement in a health food store. Take one pill every day and you will enjoy all of the health benefits of garlic without the taste.

If you use these natural remedies for conjunctivitis in a complementary manner with conventional medical eye care, you will be feeling better in no time. So, the next time you suffer from conjunctivitis, go ahead and give them a try. Talk to your dentist, such as Richards Charles A OD, for more information.
